Dr. Ahmed A. Ahmed is faculty member of infrastructure materials in the Department of Civil Engineering at University of Mustansiriyah, Baghdad, Iraq.He received his PhD from the School of Civil and Construction Engineering at Oregon State University, Corvallis, OR. He is an associate member of the American Concrete Institute (ACI committee 222, 370, and 546). He is also a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). His research interests include transport properties, carbonation, chloride profiling and corrosion evaluation, and durability of specialty cementitious systems.Dr. Ahmed is currently teaching the Construction Materials course for first level students. The Construction Materials course builds an awareness of the various standard construction materials used in the industry. The advantages, disadvantages, history, and standard testing of construction materials will be covered in details. Students will gain practical knowledge of checking the common construction materials in the market based on Iraqi specification and build confidence in specifying the quality of common materials like the quality of brick, tile, and gypsum for use in construction.
Dr. Ahmed is also teaching the English: Communication for Civil Engineers course for second level students.
Civil Engineers are often criticized for their inability to write clear, grammatically correct English as well as for their poor presentation of data. The advancement of their careers depends on their ability to successfully communicate ideas and findings to colleagues and the public. Illustrating how technology can be readily conveyed without loss of content, the class guides the students in writing and verbally presenting data and ideas in a clear, understandable, and logical manner. Clear and Concise Communications for civil engineers guides students through the steps involved in producing a concise and understandable document in various formats.
